Winter’s Last Stand
19 March 2011, 12.15

True to form, winter welcomed its final morning with a fresh coat of snow (that mostly melted by noon), and it will bid a parting good-night under the light of a supermoon. Halfway through this season, I realized it probably would not hold any snowboarding trips for me, and I resigned myself to taking the year off. Four feet of snow at Brundage in March alone have tempted me to regret that decision, and there is no question I have experienced a dose of withdrawal. At this point, the most I can do is look forward to the next La Niña, and I am determined to try my legs at cross-country skiing again for the first time since I was a kid. Meanwhile, following a long hibernation, I am itching to get outdoors and be active. This summer, I intend to explore every decent day-hike the Palouse has to offer, and who knows? I may even dust off my rock climbing gear.
